The Coronavirus Crisis? Not in the world of home décor

The world of home design is proving to be the biggest beneficiary of the coronavirus crisis. The recent period and the changes it has created in the lifestyle of all of us have brought with it a boom in the field of home design. The prolonged lockdown at home, the transition of most of the economy to working from home, the children who are not in an educational framework on a regular basis, and the impossibility of traveling and traveling the world have led many Israelis to realize that the most worthwhile investment is the investment in the home.

In the Design City complex, the design city currently being built in Mishor Adumim, more than 40 deals are reported to have been signed in the past three months. Among the newcomers: Million Chairs, Riviera, Target Forging, Seely, Aeroflex, Ziv Kitchens, Aeroflex Home, Decuri, Regs, Gornjia, Issens, Altoni.

MODY will open a 1,000-square-meter store in Design City. According to Adi Lavi, the company’s VP: We feel a significant increase in sales. There are many people who, due to the coronavirus, have decided to change their budget planning, if, for example, they thought about spending tens of thousands of shekels on a trip abroad that they are now unable to realize, they choose to direct this amount towards home renovations. People see this period as an opportunity to invest in the home and upgrade.”

According to Pnina Revach, CEO of Kass Group, which founded Design City: “In recent months, with the continuation of the covid-19 crisis and the massive progress in building the design city, we are experiencing a significant increase in demand from home design brands. The companies understand that their presence in the design city is important both at the image level and at the marketing and sales level. The complex is expected to serve thousands of visitors a day, it’s crazy, everyone wants to be part of it.”

“Design City will bring about a change in Israeli consumption patterns. No more wandering for long days between different stores, searching for parking and compromising on home décor products.” Says Revach and adds “In Design City they will find everything from everything and in one place, in a comfortable, inviting, experiential and pleasant way”.

In light of the growing demand from the design chains, Design City developers purchased an area for the construction of an additional 10,000 square meters, so that the built-up area will be close to 60,000 square meters intended for rent and another 100,000 square meters allocated as service areas, parking lots and open spaces. The launch of the complex is expected to take place in April 2021.

The Design City complex is located in Mishor Adumim near Jerusalem, less than an hour’s drive from Tel Aviv and will also include performance complexes, exhibition centers, co-working spaces for architects, a lounge for designers, the largest design library in Europe, a hotel, a design school, a conference center, a design museum and more than 200 design stores.
